We are very happy to welcome you to Maribor, Slovenia, to our regional counter-terrorism conference and wish you an enjoyable stay with us.

We will do our best to make your stay a pleasant one.

The next few pages contain some basic information that you might find useful.  




The conference will take place at the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command of the Slovenian Armed Forces (DDETC), which is an approximately 15-minute drive from the Resort & Convention Centre Habakuk where you will be accommodated.

The "Counter-Terrorism Challenges in the Region of South Eastern Europe" Conference will start on Monday, 22 March 2010 at 9.30. Transfer from the hotel to the conference venue will be provided at 8.40.

Transfer will also be provided back to the hotel every day at the end of the conference.

Transfer from and to the airports and to the Resort & Convention Centre Habakuk will be organized by the Office of Defense Cooperation, United States Embassy, and the Ministry of Defense.

The working language at the conference will be English.




All conference participants will have free access to the Internet in the DDETC library located on the ground floor where the international conference will take place.




Lunch will be served at the restaurant of the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command of the Slovenian Armed Forces daily from 12.00 to 13.15.

During breaks, coffee, milk, tea and soft drinks will be offered.




The »ice-breaker« reception for all delegates will be held on Sunday, 21 March 2010, at 20.00 at the Resort & Convention Centre Habakuk.

On Wednesday, 24 March 2010, a guided tour of the Kadetnica Museum will be organized from 14.30 to 15.10 after conference sessions.

On Wednesday, 24 March 2010, a guided tour of Maribor city will be organized at 16.30, including a wine cellar visit and high-quality wines tasting as well as a dinner with traditional local specialties.

The conference will end on Friday, 26 March 2010, at 12.30 with a closing reception hosted by Major General Alojz Šteiner, Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces. The reception will take place in the premises of the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command of the Slovenian Armed Forces in Maribor.




There is no conference fee for the participants whose participation has been co-financed from the Combating Terrorism Fellowship Program (CTFP) assets. All other participants covering the conference costs on their own shall pay the fee of 50 €. The fee should be paid on the first day of the conference.




The dress code for the official part of the conference is as follows:

- for military persons: type A service uniform,

- for civil representatives: a jacket and a tie (or equivalent for ladies).

At the welcome reception hosted by Conference Director, the dress code for all participants is “business casual”, i.e. a jacket without a tie (or equivalent for ladies).

For the sight-seeing of Maribor comfortable civilian clothes are recommended, appropriate for the weather conditions.





The official language in Slovenia is Slovene and in nationally mixed regions also Hungarian and Italian.



The currency in Slovenia is the Euro. Foreign currencies may be exchanged at border crossings, in banks, exchange offices and hotels.


Credit Cards

Major credit cards, such as Eurocard, MasterCard and Visa, are accepted at most places.


Public transportation

All major attractions in Maribor are within 25-minute driving distance from the hotel, but taxis and hotel bus shuttle are also available.


Working hours

Shops are usually open from 08.00 to 20.00, on Saturdays until 13.00. Banks are open from 08.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00; some of them are also open on Saturdays until 12.00.



You will receive a small envelope with some tourist leaflets to help you during your stay. We will be very happy to provide you with any additional information.
